2019 Shortlisted Finalists – Outstanding Achievement Award

Our judges spent a wonderful afternoon reviewing and discussing the nominations we received for our 2019 Outstanding Achievement Award, and after much deliberation our shortlisted finalists are;





Dempsie Giles

Dempsie is the Business Development & Marketing Director at Blackdog Digital, Dempsie has a wealth of knowledge regarding print and it is clear she brings her passion for the industry to her role at Blackdog – having started her career in print at the age of just 16 she is a true inspiration for empowering younger women into the industry – Blackdog Digital’s Managing Director Steve Winn, says;

“I do hope Dempsie is recognised through this award, as one of the engaging leaders within the industry as a whole, not only a woman in print. I hope that this can show other young people figuring out what career path they would like to follow, to show that anything is possible with the right attitude and commitment at any age just look at Dempsie’s success!”

Alyson Hurst

Alyson works for GF Smith Paper in sales, Alyson has dedicated most of her career to educating printers, graphic designers and brands. Her role has been in the Greater London area and she has been a source of inspiration and encouragement in the design capital of the world. If you ask any design agency based in London, do they know Alyson the answer will very likely be yes, followed by words like a great help to us, lovely lady, she’s great! – Matt Hornby who nominated Alyson explains;

“I only met Alyson a few years ago but I have heard about her in the industry for years. She is a pleasure to work with and a great source of knowledge and backgrounds on art galleries, luxury brands, fashion designers and many of the design icons based in London, she is inspirational to talk to”.

Veronica Heaven

Veronica is the Managing Director of The Heaven Company and Founder of the ‘Brief-Cases’ Initiative. The Heaven Company is an independent consulting firm founded on the firm belief that ‘business people can do good, and do better by working together. The Brief-Cases initiative allows undergraduates to be challenged to work according to the constraints of a business brief in fulfillment of a BA (Hons) degree program. Through practical application-based projects, students gain valuable entrepreneurial and employability skills, as well as industry awareness. Brief Cases is a national competition, judged and awarded by industry professionals.

“Veronica Heaven is an incredible, strong, talented, kind, supportive and future-looking ‘woman in print’. She is an excellent ambassador for our industry, often speaking outside of it at CEO and management level and positively promoting the graphic arts.

Veronica worked in the paper industry for many years and is an expert on all things environmental and CSR within this industry.

Debbie Waldron-Hoines

Debbie is the Managing Director of Avant-Tout, who offer management services to the printing and packaging sectors, but she also wears many other hats; she is a Director of EFIA.  EFIA supports printers through education with their EFIA Academy initiative for online learning, Debbie was instrumental in setting this up and is constantly networking to promote the Academy with colleges, trainees and apprentices.

Debbie set up and spearheads the very successful group ‘Women in Packaging’ with Jo Stephenson from PHD Marketing.

Debbie is a Liveryman of the Stationers’ Company and sits on their Education Committee.   She works tirelessly for the flexographic printing community and has been involved in many initiatives to help young people – especially young women coming into our industries.
